I have tons to tell you guys and no brain power to do it!
Sickness has been our live-in roommate for the last several months. I've been trying to kick Sickness out but he refuses. I went, again, to the doctor and finally got some big guns to get the sorry Sickness butt outta here.
He caused 2 middle ear infections, a severe upper respiratory infection, bronchitis, high fever and just general crabby-yucky fussy baby syndrome in the Wee One. His white blood cell count was low too from having to fight off Sickness for nearly 2 months. (Yeah, Ped acts like I'm over reacting bringing him in and ER doctor treats me like I'm negligent in not having him seen more). He's gotten 3 shots of antibiotics, he's on a liquid antibiotic currently and hopefully he'll be finished in 3 more days. He's already showing a HUGE improvement. The nurse told us last night (when he went in for his follow-up shots) that she thought they were going to have to hospitalize him. His eyes were sunken in and he was really sick. After monitoring him though, they felt he could go home but told us to bring him back the second he started getting worse. Thank heavens, he never did.
The Kidlet has the sniffles and a slight cough but he's on the mend. All on his own! He was out of school for almost a month during Christmas break and when we moved. He's in his new school and after a really rough first week, he's doing better. I don't care for his new school or his teacher though. She can't spell! She also doesn't leave me any notes as to how he did that day. Only a smiley so I guess he's doing fine. She sends home homework with him every night, on top of the nightly question he has to answer. He does homework for about 20-30 minutes (not consecutively because he just won't concentrate that long) each night. I think in Kindergarten it is rather ridiculous. I know they want a higher standard for education these days and I'm all for that but he's being required to learn how to write each letter perfectly and he's learning to read. He's doing great but he loses his concentration pretty fast. He's just 5 years old! I'm very proud of how he's doing but I don't like that this new school gives him homework all the time.
Not to mention that despite the fact that his teacher hasn't contacted us about how he's adjusting to his new school, she's sure to send home all the "fees" and fundraising stuff he's missed. 4 dollars for PTA, 3 dollars for his Valentine's day party of which we have to buy cards for as well. Here's this fundraiser ending on this date and this second fundraiser is starting on the same date as the first one ended. I know that they need money but I hate that they use children to solicit it. I hate that we paid his former school all these fees and we have to do it again, not counting the list of school supplies that I was given to buy. I already bought 45 bucks worth of school supplies for the other school! Maybe when our tax return comes in it won't seem like such a huge demand on our pocket books. I hate for the Kidlet to be the kid "who's parents can't". My parents couldn't either and although I understood, it still sucked.
The new house is not unpacked yet. As I said, Sickness has been living with us and hit me as well after my surgery. I have bronchitis and am taking an antibiotic, narcotic (for the cough) and using a nasty tasting inhaler. I also discovered a big lump in my stomach that hurts when I cough. I'm pretty sure it is a hernia. I can almost bet I got it after my gall bladder surgery. They told me not to pick up anything, especially the baby, for a week. Ha! A stay-at-home-mom with no one else at home.... there's just no way I could not pick up the Wee One. I'm sure all the coughing has either made it worse, or irritated it enough to make me aware of it's presence. I'll be calling the doctor on Monday.
Back to the apartment. I love having 2 bathrooms. I love the boys having their own room that is big enough for ALL of the toys and baby furniture. I love that they have a huge walk in closet that I can put all the toy drawers and both thier dressers in with room to spare. I love having a large utility room with the washer and dryer in it and room to put in a large cabinet for all my cleaning supplies.
What I don't love is bugs. What I don't love is roaches and ants. I can't tell you how devastated I was to start seeing little roaches in the kitchen and bathroom. The second day we were here there were about a hundred ants covering the boys bedroom floor. A cracker crumb from the baby was on the floor and they swarmed it and had a trail leading to it. We're on the list for the pest guy to come out and spray. I cried. I know that it wasn't us that brought the bugs. They lived here before us but when you see bugs, even despite them being so dominate in this state, you just feel like you live in the ghetto. I felt destitute.
I'm learning to love things in the house despite there being so little space. We lost about 120 sq. ft. when we moved here. We gained more room in the boys bedroom and in having 2 bathrooms but the dining room is barely big enough for my computer desk. We had to leave our dining room table behind. Granted, it was old and a hand-me-down but still! The Hunk's computer is now in our room as well as the china hutch. Makes things a tight sqeeze in there.
However, the maintenance people here are great! We moved in to find an antique dishwasher. I kid you not, it must of been one of the first models out! If it was on, you could open it and it wouldn't shut off! I told them that with two small kids I was afraid it was too dangerous. If any one of them opened it they would get sprayed with really hot water. (The water here is super hot and we don't have to wait for it to warm up!) They took a look at it and agreed. That was on a Thursday. Friday they came and told us they were going to take out the old dishwasher and put another one in its place that had a cut-off switch. Monday they were here with a brand-spankin' new dishwasher! Straight out of the box! Not only was it new but they didn't waste any time putting it in. They said they would and boom, they were here to do it. No months and months, reminder after reminder later only to get a dishwasher from another unit that probably wouldn't work and then another several weeks to fix that one. We were just so impressed with how the maintenance treated us. A far cry from our past residence.
Well.... it's super late and the baby is going to be up in a while. I don't want to jinx myself but he's been doing fantastic on the sleeping front. I probably just jinxed myself anyway. He's sleeping roughly 12 hours with only 1 or 2 wakings through the night. And I can just put him in his crib at 8 p.m.! Sometimes he cries for a bit and then sleeps, and sometimes he doesn't.
It's been a while since you've seen the boys, so here is some eye candy until I can get to their site and update fully on how they are doing.
He loves standing and playing cars, like big brother!
